And just like that Spintox is off and racing.
Welcome to our first challenge of the year and something that we have never attempted as well.
With any challenge there is one thing that you can’t do without; that is a goal or a target. It can be anything from weight loss to getting fitter or toning up, there has to be something you are working towards. The more specific you can be the easier it will be for you to achieve. People often find biggest thing that stops you getting anywhere is not lack of the road map but no planned destination.
Be specific – set a target. One that is achievable over an 8 week timeframe. Keep this in mind; a safe weight loss guide is around the 1kg per week and if we break that down even further we can call that a deficit of approximately 7000 calories. This brings us to our first blog. Nutrition and also the announcement of our new partnership with Workout Meals.
If your goal is weight loss and you want to get to that 1kg loss per week there are a few ways you can break it down. We can look at how much you are consuming and how much you are burning or energy in energy out but it gets complicated. Lets say that you are catching a train to work sitting all day and then getting to a class at night. If you have a heart rate monitor you would see that you are burning somewhere between 500-800 calories per class. 4 classes a week will put you at a minimum of 2000 cals down on your normal week. You can also allow for a bit extra due to all our classes being programmed to put you in EPOC which we will touch on a little later.
This sets our calories that we burn but the big one here that will set your world on fire is what you are consuming. All food is not created equal and by now you would have been overloaded with what you should be eating and what you shouldn’t be eating. Is low carb better or is intermittent fasting best? Or should we only eat raw food? I’ll be brutally honest. Every diet has some merit and pretty much all of them will work in some way. It comes down to how willing you are to either plan like crazy or sacrifice and be incredibly disciplined.
Me personally and this is over 17 years I have found that feeling full is the best way to keep on the straight and narrow. I don’t mean eating all day. I mean doing a little bit of everything and making sure I never get crazy hungry and then as a result reach for the closest thing to me which lets face it is never anything healthy.
What does this mean for you and what advice am I going to give you? First thing is to make sure that you know what you are eating and what is in it. Best way is to download an app such as my fitness pal. This app allows you to put everything in and see what it contains. You will honestly be shocked at what you see. The 2nd and most important is to drink lots of water. Water makes you feel fuller longer and will also make your skin look amazing:)
If all of this seems incredibly complex you can always check out our friends at Workout Meals who can pretty much provide everything delivered either to our studios or your home for about as much as you would spend on your weekly food anyway. We also have a discount code for you as giving you 10% off.
